November 21 – Restoration and Devotion
Read Leviticus 16:23-24
Once the high priest had confirmed that the scapegoat was officially lost outside the camp, he would bathe again, leave the simple garments he had worn to perform the ceremonies, and put the high priestly garments back on.
After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to over 500 people (1 Corinthians 15:6). Then, He ascended back into Heaven and took His place at the right hand of God once again. His mission had been accomplished. He was restored to His royal place. He continued as the Advocate and the Mediator for the people with His Father.
One Last Act
After putting the priestly robes back on, the High Priest offered a ram for himself and a ram for the people, an act that symbolized total devotion to God. Sins had been forgiven and removed from the people. The logical and natural response was an act of gratitude and devotion to God.
Jesus had acted in complete obedience and submission to the will of God. We cannot do less than to follow His example. Worship is always a response to God’s goodness to us. “We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).”
