Shake-n-Shine 2013 Recap
North Side Baptist Church again sponsored its Shake N Shine Camp this past summer.
This year’s camp, the 13th sponsored by NSBC, was for children ages 8-11 and took place July 15-19 at Erskine College in Due West.
Nearly 40 children and a like number of counselors/staff participated in the camp.
“The children seemed to have a great time,” Camp Director Elaine Davis said. “I’ve received nothing but positive comments about this year’s camp. We are always appreciative of the counselors and staff who help make the camp a success.”
Shake N Shine Camp is offered free of charge to age appropriate at-risk children who regularly attend Project Love, North Side’s weekly ministry.
Each child was assigned to a counselor for the duration of the weeklong camp and received personal attention from caring adults who volunteer their time to serve as counselors for the children.
The children also were exposed to positive role models and learned Christian values.
Activities during the week included sports, games, swimming (always a favorite among Shake N Shine campers), crafts, group worship time, individual devotion time with counselors and plenty of food.
Sponsorships donated by the congregation paid for each child’s participation in the camp. The North Side family also provided toiletry items for the children.
